Big "C" and I went to the Boy Scout Camp for "Medieval Days" this morning. We had a blast! He got to try spear throwing, archery, ax throwing, and sword & shield fighting all before lunch. Big "C" and the boys in his Cub Scouts pack then ran a couple of "foot races" before most of them left. We talked with the re-enactors, ate, then both tried our hand at archery and ax throwing again. We talked with the re-enactors some more and they let Big "C" put a couple of steel helmets on and heft a few shields and weapons to get a feel for them. Then they had mock battles with weapons ranging from the Vikings in the Early Middle Ages through the latter part of the Middle Ages into the Italian and French styles of the Renaissance with the rapier and man gauche (long dagger.) Big "C" wanted to get autographs after this! lol We listened to a couple of songs from two guys in kilts playing bagpipes, then went back to the stations and did rock hurling, threw some more spears (I hit the target!), tried caber tossing, then went for a hike in the woods! What a great time!!!!!
This evening we journeyed to the hollowed grounds of Target, then on to the fabled Toys R Us store. After that, we ventured to Hobby Lobby, then ate dinner at Cheeseburgers In Paradise. It was good, but not great. (sigh) We felt a little disappointed. Finally, we headed home so the two yea-hoos could play awhile before bath time and bed. (We considered going to the drive-in at Winchester to see the new Iron Man movie, but decided that would be too late for the stinkers to get to bed. Maybe next weekend?) This was a fantastic day, and I didn't even go running! :)

I had a friend in college whose Dad went to a lot of "Medieval" type events and she enjoyed them as much as he did! She even has a couple of his swords that he used. They were pretty impressive!
I have several swords, dirks, and long/large daggers, but I keep them hidden and will continue to do so until the boys are much older.
